Polymer Preparation Station

Polymer flocculants speed up settling and flotation of suspended solids and help belt presses, centrifuges and screw presses produce drier cake. Before polymer can work, it must be wetted, dissolved and aged correctly. A polymer preparation station, also known as a polymer make-down or polymer blending unit, does this automatically.

TiERMAX stations prepare solution from either powder or emulsion polymer. Accurate water flow measurement, a dry-polymer screw feeder or liquid polymer pump, agitators and level measurement keep the concentration on target while minimizing polymer use. Typical U.S. users include municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, biosolids dewatering, pulp and paper mills, and mining and industrial wastewater systems.

Three Polymer Make-Down Designs

Three-chamber system: polymer is dissolved with water in the first chamber, ages in the second, and flows over a weir into the third chamber, from which it is drawn. The process is tuned to limit carry-over of unaged product.

Pendulum system: the tank has two chambers that fill and age alternately. Solution is drawn only after the set aging time, so no unaged product reaches the process.

Double-deck system: two chambers are stacked. Polymer is prepared in the upper chamber and drops into the lower chamber only when fully aged.

Choosing a Polymer Preparation System

Selection depends on the polymer type (powder or emulsion), required solution concentration, aging time and peak demand in gal/h. Our engineers size the system, the dry feeder and the hopper so you have enough aged solution for every shift.
