Single Screw Feeder
The TiERMAX single screw feeder delivers a steady, controllable flow of bulk solids into extruders, mixers, conveyors and packaging lines. It handles powders, granules, pellets, flakes and minor additives, and it is sized for both continuous compounding and batch recipes.
A heavy-duty frame, a stainless steel hopper and an interchangeable screw set keep the feeder reliable in demanding plants while letting you match the screw pitch and diameter to each material. Three series cover most U.S. applications: HSF high-accuracy loss-in-weight, SSF standard loss-in-weight and VSF volumetric. Drives and control panels can be supplied for 480 V / 60 Hz plant power.
Single Screw Feeder - Models
Three single screw feeder series cover applications from simple additive dosing to precision compounding: high-accuracy loss-in-weight, standard loss-in-weight and volumetric.
Model HSF – High-Accuracy Loss-in-Weight Single Screw Feeder
Model HSF is the high-accuracy loss-in-weight version for compounding and other precision dosing.
Dual feedback and a double closed-loop controller give fast response and very stable output.
Feeding accuracy reaches ±0.2% on suitable powders and granules.
Interchangeable screws and an easy-clean design cover a wide range of feed rates.
Model SSF – Standard Loss-in-Weight Single Screw Feeder
Model SSF is the standard loss-in-weight feeder for general industrial dosing.
Single-loop gravimetric control keeps the feed rate steady during continuous operation.
Feeding accuracy reaches ±0.5% on suitable materials.
Tool-free cleaning and interchangeable screws make changeovers quick.
Model VSF – Volumetric Single Screw Feeder
Model VSF is a cost-effective volumetric feeder for continuous dosing.
It suits applications where tight gravimetric accuracy is not required.
Modular components simplify installation, cleaning and maintenance.
An optional agitator improves flow of difficult powders and prevents bridging.
Interchangeable screws support a wide range of feed rates and materials.
Single Screw Feeders - Benefits
A single screw feeder gives you controlled, repeatable feeding in continuous and batch processes. Accurate dosing protects product quality, reduces raw-material giveaway and keeps downstream equipment running at its design rate.

How a single screw feeder works
A single screw feeder draws material from a hopper and moves it forward with one rotating auger. The screw diameter, flight pitch and speed determine how much product leaves the discharge tube in a given time. Because there is only one screw, the design is simple to clean, quick to change over and well suited to free-flowing and moderately cohesive materials.

Volumetric single screw feeders
A volumetric feeder doses by volume: the controller sets the screw speed, and the feed rate follows. It is the most economical choice when bulk density is stable and moderate accuracy is acceptable, for example when adding colorant, salt or a free-flowing additive to a batch. Optional agitators keep the screw flights filled so the output stays consistent.
Each VSF unit combines a 304 or 316 stainless steel hopper, an application-specific screw, a gearmotor with variable-frequency drive and a compact base plate. The feed rate is set at the operator panel or by the plant PLC.

Gravimetric (loss-in-weight) single screw feeders
A loss-in-weight feeder sits on precision load cells and continuously measures how fast the hopper is losing weight. The controller compares the actual rate with the setpoint and adjusts screw speed in real time, so the feeder compensates for changes in bulk density, aeration or flowability. This is the right choice for extrusion, compounding and any process where every pound counts.
TiERMAX gravimetric screw feeders use a three-point weighing frame, stainless steel product contact parts and a self-diagnostic routine that detects wear and drift before they affect accuracy. The screw and hopper come apart without tools for cleaning and material changeovers, and a lump breaker or dispersing agitator can be added to prevent bridging.

Choosing between volumetric and gravimetric
Select a volumetric feeder when the material flows freely and the process tolerates small variations. Choose loss-in-weight when the recipe is tight, the material changes from lot to lot, or you need a documented feed-rate record for quality control. Our engineers can test your material and recommend the right screw, hopper and control package before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
A single screw feeder meters powders, granules and pellets at a controlled rate into extruders, mixers, conveyors, packaging machines and other process equipment.
A volumetric feeder controls output by screw speed only. A gravimetric (loss-in-weight) feeder weighs the hopper continuously and adjusts screw speed automatically to hold the target feed rate in lb/h or kg/h.
Single screw feeders handle powders, granules, flakes, pellets and many free-flowing or moderately cohesive bulk solids. Very sticky products may need a twin screw or flexible-wall design.
Choose gravimetric feeding when you need tight accuracy, when bulk density changes during production, or when you need feed-rate data for quality records.
Volumetric feeders typically hold within a few percent of setpoint on free-flowing material. TiERMAX loss-in-weight models reach ±0.5% (SSF) and ±0.2% (HSF) under suitable conditions.
Consider the material, bulk density, required feed rate, target accuracy, screw size, refill method and how the feeder connects to upstream and downstream equipment.
Yes. With the right screw geometry, hopper design and agitation, single screw feeders handle many cohesive powders. We recommend a material test for difficult products.
Plastics compounding, food and bakery, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, minerals, battery materials and building products all use single screw feeders.
Clean the hopper and screw at product changeovers, check bearings and seals on a regular schedule, and verify load-cell calibration on gravimetric models.
Yes. Screw size, hopper volume, materials of construction, agitation and controls are all configured to your application and plant requirements.
