High-Temperature Valve
Standard rotary valves and gates distort, seize or leak when product temperatures climb. TiERMAX high-temperature valves are engineered for reliable isolation, metering and discharge of hot bulk solids such as bottom ash, fly ash, calcined lime and coke, kiln dust, hot sand and combustion residues.
Each valve is configured with heat-resistant alloys, high-temperature seals, insulation, water cooling and the right actuator for the duty. Designs are available from about 750°F (400°C) up to about 2,190°F (1,200°C), depending on valve type and operating conditions. The high-temperature rotary slide gate provides permanent, safe shut-off of hot ash and combustion products up to about 1,740°F (950°C).
High-Temperature Valve - Models
High-temperature solutions include rotary valves, self-cleaning rotary valves, slide gate valves and swing gate valves, selected for material, temperature, pressure, isolation duty and cycle frequency.
High-temperature rotary valves
High-temperature rotary valves handle bulk solids at about 750°F to 2,190°F (400–1,200°C). The rotor and other critical parts are made from selected heat-resistant alloys, and for extreme temperatures the shaft and housing can be water-cooled to protect bearings and seals.
High-temperature, self-cleaning rotary valves
The self-cleaning high-temperature rotary valve handles hot, sticky and poorly flowing solids. A synchronized mechanical scraper cleans each rotor pocket every revolution, preventing buildup and blockages so dosing and discharge stay reliable.
High-temperature rotary slide gate valves
The high-temperature rotary slide gate gives permanent, safe shut-off of hot ash and combustion products up to about 1,740°F (950°C). Trace heating and insulation are available to limit heat loss at inlet and outlet.

Selecting a High-Temperature Valve
Temperature is only one factor. TiERMAX evaluates the bulk material, maximum and continuous temperature in °F, particle size, abrasiveness, bulk density, pressure differential, capacity, mounting position, cycle frequency and required sealing performance before recommending a valve.

Typical Applications
Hot valves are common under boiler hoppers, kilns, calciners, coolers and dryers, and in ash handling at coal, biomass and waste-to-energy plants. Downstream, a cooling screw conveyor can bring hot product to a safe handling temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions
Depending on valve type, materials, cooling and process conditions, valves can be engineered for about 750°F to 2,190°F (400–1,200°C).
Rotary valves, self-cleaning rotary valves, slide gate valves and swing gate valves.
Yes. Appropriate designs and wear- or heat-resistant materials are selected for abrasive products such as ash and minerals.
Not always. At extreme temperatures, the shaft and housing may need water cooling to protect bearings, seals and connected equipment.
Yes. Insulation and trace heating can be added to reduce heat loss and maintain process temperature.
Selection is based on material, operating and maximum temperature, pressure, capacity, valve function, installation, cycle frequency and site requirements.
