Vacuum conveying system

A vacuum conveying system transfers powders, granules and pellets from one process point to another under negative pressure. A vacuum pump or blower draws material from a pickup point, such as a bag dump station, bulk bag discharger, drum wand or hopper, through a closed pipeline into a vacuum receiver mounted above the mixer, reactor, sieve or packaging machine.

Because the whole line is under vacuum, any leak pulls air in rather than pushing dust out. That gives excellent containment, protects operators from dusty or potent powders, and keeps product free of contamination. Pipe can be routed horizontally and vertically around existing equipment, which makes vacuum conveyors a popular retrofit in crowded plants.

TiERMAX systems are engineered around your material, rate, distance, hygiene requirements and process, from simple single-receiver loaders to multi-point systems with weighing and PLC recipe control. For long distances and high rates, see our pneumatic conveying system.

Frequently Asked Questions

It uses negative pressure to move powders, granules, pellets and other dry solids through an enclosed pipeline, typically from bag dump stations, bulk bag dischargers or hoppers to mixers, reactors, sieves and packers.

A vacuum pump or blower creates negative pressure in the line, drawing material from the pickup point into a vacuum receiver. A filter separates product from air, and the receiver discharges into the downstream equipment.

Vacuum systems pull material and are preferred for short to medium distances, multiple pickup points and high containment. Pressure systems push material and are usually better for longer distances and higher rates.

It depends on the job. Vacuum conveying gives enclosed, flexible routing, including vertical lifts around equipment. A screw conveyor is simple and robust for short, fixed routes but offers less routing flexibility.

Food ingredients, pharmaceutical powders, chemicals, plastic granules, minerals and many other solids. Design depends on bulk density, particle size, flow, abrasiveness, fragility and moisture.

Dilute phase moves material at high air velocity and low concentration. Dense phase runs at higher solids loading and lower velocity, which can reduce breakage and pipe wear for suitable products.

Yes. A well-designed dense phase vacuum system runs at low velocity, limiting damage to fragile particles and wear from abrasive ones. The design is always based on your material.

We evaluate the material, bulk density, particle size, rate, horizontal distance, vertical lift, routing, pickup and discharge points, hygiene needs and hazardous-location classification, then engineer the system to suit.
