Pneumatic conveying system

Pneumatic Conveying Systems for Bulk Material Handling

A pneumatic conveying system moves bulk solids through an enclosed pipeline using air. Pipe can be routed over roofs, around equipment and up to silos where belts or screws cannot easily go. The sealed line keeps dust in the system and contaminants out, and there are few moving parts to maintain.

TiERMAX engineers both dense phase and dilute phase pressure conveying systems. We choose the method from your material properties, conveying distance in feet, required rate in lb/h or tons/h, and process. Each system includes the feed device (a rotary airlock or pressure vessel), pipeline and bends, diverter valves, receivers or silo filters, and PLC controls. Typical materials include cement, fly ash, lime, alumina, sand, minerals, chemicals, plastic pellets, battery materials, sugar, flour and other food ingredients.

Pneumatic conveying system - Models

We design pneumatic conveying around your material and process. Choose dense phase or dilute phase to get the right balance of product protection, conveying rate and operating cost.

Dense phase pneumatic conveying system

Dense phase pneumatic conveying system

Dense phase conveying moves powders and granules slowly, in plugs or a dense stream, using higher-pressure air. It is ideal for long distances, high rates and abrasive or fragile products, because low velocity reduces product breakage, pipe wear and air use.

Dilute phase pneumatic conveying system

Dilute phase pneumatic conveying system

Dilute phase pressure conveying suspends material in a high-velocity air stream fed by a positive displacement blower and rotary airlock. It moves non-fragile, free-flowing products continuously over medium to long distances with a compact, low-cost design.

Frequently Asked Questions

A pneumatic conveying system moves powders, granules and bulk solids through enclosed pipelines using air pressure or vacuum, for clean, dust-free and automated handling.

Dense phase uses low velocity and higher pressure to move material gently in slugs. Dilute phase uses high air velocity to carry material suspended in the air stream. Dense phase suits fragile or abrasive products; dilute phase suits free-flowing products.

Abrasive, fragile or high-value materials such as alumina, cement, fly ash, sand, battery materials, chemicals, minerals and some food ingredients.

Free-flowing powders and granules such as plastic pellets, flour, sugar, grains and other products that tolerate higher velocity.

Less product breakage, less pipe wear, less dust and efficient conveying over long distances.

High rates, continuous operation, simple design, lower initial cost and easy integration into existing lines.

It depends on material characteristics, distance, rate, fragility, abrasiveness and process needs. We recommend a material evaluation and, where needed, test conveying.

Yes. Systems are engineered for your rate, pipe routing, weighing, PLC or SCADA integration and explosion protection. Hazardous-location requirements are reviewed for each U.S. project.
